Airing our dirty laundry

About 5 years ago we purchased our first front loading washer & dryer. We have loved them since day one. Our family does a lot of laundry. Having a Hubby who showers twice a day, a teenage son & me who loves to shop & has a ton of clothes creates much laundry. Let us not forget that we have 2 babies in & out of the house every weekend. Babies are messy!! I can’t even keep track of how many loads of wash we do a week. The other week I must have done 8-10 loads in one day as I washed curtains & all the throw blankets around the house on top of our regular laundry.

This brings us to now. Our washer only works some days. It can be empty and yet gives us an error code that it is overloaded. Not good. Not good at all. Make matters worse, warranty expired. I have a very handy Hubby who has researched & tried to fix it himself. We are to the point that we know it needs one of 2 parts replaced. Which one is anyones guess. Those 2 parts are each between $500-600. I’m not sure I want to risk spending that much on one to find out the other one is the problem. By the time we buy both we could have had a brand new washer with a warranty!

We have begun the daunting task of researching different brands to decide what we want before the day comes that we can’t trick ours into working anymore. I despise shopping for appliances. I typically get annoyed by the sales people who stalk me as I’m trying to look at what they have on the floor. I am very hands on and I want to touch them, open them, look at them… I don’t want you to spew out information I could have read off the internet without leaving my home.

I would love to have a brand come to me & convince me why their washer is the right one for my family.

Here is what I would like to have in our new washer:

  • front loading
  • steam feature
  • large capacity
  • energy star

I don’t think that is a hard list to meet. Honestly, I would love to have a new matching dryer, the budget is just not going to allow for that. The washer is going to push the limits as it is with Christmas & many birthdays right around the corner.
