Cupcake Wars ondemand means demand for cupcakes

I recently realized I can watch episode after episode of Cupcake Wars ondemand. I don’t know about you but for me this means I just have to get into my kitchen and bake some for myself. I have a box mix in my cabinet. Not good enough! I searched online for a recipe. Still not working for me. Now what? I take a basic recipe and change it around. Sadly I did not measure some things so making them again will be a task. It is a task I will have to undertake. They were such a hit. After his first bite my hubby’s immediate question was “Did you put heroin or crack in these?” {I assure you, I did not!!} They are vanilla bean packed with vanilla bean!!
I better go hide the last couple before they vanish!

Get the facts on food safety!

How many things that you have learned about food safety have been by word of mouth over the years? Did you know that there is a chance you were unknowingly given false information? There are so many things people believe about food safety that just aren’t true.

September is National Food Safety Education Month. Because of this let us get a couple of these food myths busted thanks to the USDA!

Let’s break these down a bit as far as my household is concerned. I will list each of the above Myths and our mindset on them prior to learning the facts through this campaign.

Myth #1: “If I microwave food, the microwaves kill the bacteria, so the food is safe.” No way! Considering when you put things in the microwave they never heat evenly, why would I count on it to kill bacteria??

Myth #2: “I don’t need to use a food thermometer. I can tell when my food is cooked by looking at it or checking the temperature with my finger.” While my Husband is wonderful about using a food thermometer, I am not. I just over cook the crap out of meats because I’d rather them be over cooked than make us sick. It’s a good thing he does most of the cooking of meats as I can’t stand the sight of raw meat.

Myth #3: “I can’t re-freeze foods after I have thawed them – I have to cook them now or throw them away.” This one apparently my Husband knew. I on the other hand would throw them away and never re-freeze them! With that being said, I am very guilty of thawing meat on the counter. From here on out it will never be left out to thaw and I’ll throw it back in the freezer if we can’t make it that night!

Myth #4: “Of course I was all bagged lettuce and greens because it might make me sick if I don’t.” Nope. I’m not washing the bagged lettuce & greens. I am way too lazy for that. Actually, I need to become more diligent about washing other fruits & veggies that are not bagged before we eat them.

How does your family stack up in your knowledge of food safety??

Dinner Dilemma: Solved!

Do you have the same issue in your house that we have in ours? The dinner time dilemma? Here is how it typically goes here:

Hubby: “What do you want to do for dinner tonight?”

Me: “I dunno.”

Hubby: “Well, what are you hungry for?”

Me: “I dunno. What do you want?”

Hubby: “I asked you. You are the one who is picky and only eats 3 things. I’ll eat anything.”

Seriously. We go through this all the time. It is the same if we are going out to eat too. We debate back & forth forever about where to go. We are so over it!

Welcome Pinterest to our lives! Before we go shopping I pull up my boards and choose some of my pins to make that week. Having an app for that is even more amazing! I can pull up the recipe in the store to double check how much of something I may need if I didn’t write it down. This has made the world of difference! We no longer eat the same 3 things day after day.

Here are a few of our most recent dinners.

Chili, chili & more chili.

My Hubby had a cookout for work that required him to cook chili.

Did I mention it was around 48 quarts of chili?

Not being one that likes chili, I think he made my house stink.

Apparently the guys at work thought otherwise, they ate it all.

He probably could have made double what he did & still have none leftover.

Here is the link to the recipe he used… over & over & over again.

Spring is in the air!

We’ve been busy around here lately. I suppose that is why I have been slacking on blog posts. What can I say, spring is in the air!

In just one day we went to breakfast, diagnosed what was wrong with a truck, got mulch & dirt for gardening and got the most delicious smelling lilac bush I have yet to plant! This collage does not include the fact that we actually made 6 trips to 2 different garden centers, took our son to the Dr, went out to dinner with Grandpa, visit with Hubby’s mom, and ran other errands too!
Our life would not be complete with a little bit of Soup mixed in! She is starting to hold her own bottles! She is just so cute & sweet. Oh, and she loves to “chew” on frozen avocado slices!

We have so much gardening to get finished around here and the rain is not helping matters! Naturally, since I have to work the next 2 days, it will be beautiful out then! I can’t wait to get these gardens completed so I can share photos of them with you!!

Have you started gardening?
